Yesterday I read a news post that was my no little standards alarming. The BBC reported that our president had decided to tell the not entirely sane dictator of North Korea that if they continue to work on their nuclear missiles, if they continue to threaten the United States; those threats would be met with Fire and Fury. WHAT? To me that statement reeks of the threat to utilize nuclear warheads on another country. We did it once during WWII, the results were horrific. Why would we do that again? The people of North Korea are not at fault. It … Continue reading North Korea: What have we done?
What does it take? What does it take to be a diplomat? It takes finesse, it takes good timing, it takes knowing right from wrong and having ethics. It means having strength and courage to do the right thing, even when the “right” thing, may feel wrong. It means having the wisdom to go around the authority figure when you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can prevent deaths. Being a diplomat can be fun, it can be stressful, it can be demoralizing and uplifting within the same breath. How do I know this? I’m not a … Continue reading To Be A Diplomat
I had the opportunity to see Wonder Woman a few days ago and I am ecstatic about the outcome. Patty Jenkins did an absolutely brilliant job on this movie. I have been a fan of Wonder Woman since I was … Continue reading We Need Wonder Woman
I’ve written on the UN before, when I made commentary on Wonder Woman. This is wholly different. Every day, I become more and more ashamed, more and more disgraced with my country. I wasn’t born on U.S. soil, though both my parents are Americans; my mother fought for me to obtain a social security card. During times like these, I wish she hadn’t. Part of me wishes I could leave this country, although, the more I talk to delegates of other nations, the few times I have jested that I should seek citizenship elsewhere, I am quickly shot down. “Don’t … Continue reading The UN Human Rights Council
I wanted to take a moment to thank the President of the United States. I wanted to thank him for being a misogynistic pig, I wanted to thank him for making hatred and bigotry ok. Never before have I been driving down the road and followed by an angry white male who perceived a wrong; only to have him role his window down and call me a ‘cunt’. He thought this was perfectly acceptable Mr. President. GRAB ‘EM BY THE PUSSY! Right? Thank you for making the white man think that telling Latino Americans and Arab Americans to Go Back … Continue reading A Thank You Letter
I recently returned from an incredible internship that allowed me to work at the United Nations for a week. I was able to meet delegates from various countries, including Ex-Pats from the United States, Ethiopia, Egypt, Bahrain, Nigeria, Albania…the list continues. This particular conference focused on education, specifically the necessity of educating our children, and ensuring that girls have equal opportunities to attend as the males do. Some of the speakers lauded educational practices that the United States has been doing for years; while others made blanket statements that were decidedly anti-American, and anti- any country that wasn’t theirs; though … Continue reading Switzerland
I have recently been told I was acting like a “Social Justice Warrior” or SJW. I took it as a compliment. It wasn’t meant as one. I have recently been told to ‘stop watching the news’ as it just upsets me. Why would I stop being informed? I have recently been told ‘what he’s doing is illegal, he can’t do that’. He is. I have recently been told ‘it’s only for four years’. Are we sure? He was voted in once. I have recently been told not to judge those who voted for Trump because everyone voted for him for a … Continue reading Women in the Era of…
